Enabling work to deliver the new $110.2 million Cowra Hospital has commenced, with the early works contractor appointed for the new state-of-the-art facility.
Lipman has been appointed as the enabling works contractor for the Cowra Hospital Redevelopment.
Enabling works to date have included preliminary site investigations, installing the perimeter site fencing and shade-cloth, and installation of temporary services.
Over the coming weeks work will include the installation of site amenities and the commencement of demolition of the existing structures to the rear of the site.
Main works construction for the redevelopment is expected to commence in 2023 after early works are completed.
The artist impressions showcasing the schematic design for the redevelopment were released in December 2022 and included staff, community and stakeholder consultation sessions.
The project has included extensive consultation and feedback from staff and the community, which has informed the hospital’s two-level design, access improvements, onsite parking, new landscaped areas and enhanced district views from the hospital. The new $110.2 million hospital will deliver:
o An emergency department,
o A general medical and surgery inpatient ward, including spaces to provide palliative care
o A peri-operative service (a range of surgical procedures),
o A maternity unit with a dedicated nursery,
o Ambulatory care (services for outpatients) and Hospital in the Home,
o Oral health (dental clinic),
o Renal dialysis (dialysis treatment for outpatients),
o Oncology (chemotherapy treatments),
o Community and allied health
o Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol services,
o Tresillian inpatient beds for new mothers and their babies, and
o A medical imaging department including a new CT scanner and ultrasound, and
o Staff accommodation.
Following a comprehensive operational commissioning process by Western NSW LHD, it is expected the new hospital will be operational in 2025.
